A new development of 199 luxury apartments overlooking Chatham Docks has marked its completion, at The Manica Building – X1 Chatham Waters and welcomes its first residents to the scheme.

‘Manica X1 Chatham Waters’ is the flagship project in Kent by award-winning developer X1, delivering on their commitment to bring high quality apartments to one of the UK’s fastest growing commuter towns.

Melissa Green – Operations Director at X1 said: “We are delighted to have officially opened The Manica Building – X1 Chatham Waters along with welcoming the first residents to the scheme.”

“We are proud to be contributing towards the redevelopment of Chatham Docks along with bringing quality homes & affordable luxury to the local rental market. We look forward to meeting with new residents over the coming weeks and playing our part in helping to shape the new community.”

The Manica Building – X1 Chatham Waters is at the heart of the Chatham Waters redevelopment scheme by Peel L&P, who are regenerating waterfront locations across the UK. The Chatham Waters masterplan follows on from the success of Peel L&P’s MediaCityUK in Greater Manchester. During the last five years, over £130 million has been invested into the first few phases of development at Chatham Waters with a further £500 million investment in the pipeline. To date, over 600 new full-time jobs have been created at Chatham Waters.

Andrew Dickson, Peel L&P Project Manager for Chatham Waters said: “This residential scheme is the first to complete on the Chatham Waters regeneration plan, and the transition from the topping out ceremony 14 months ago, to delivering 199 quality apartments through the coronavirus pandemic is a tremendous achievement. Congratulations to X1 Developments and OHOB teams. We look forward to the continued partnership with X1 in delivering quality homes across our Strategic Waters projects.”

The new apartment complex has been delivered on schedule with construction partners O’Halloran & O’Brien (OHOB).

Kieran Duggan, Operations Director at OHOB added: “We are immensely proud to be a part of the team that delivered the first residential phase of Chatham Waters. As a local company, we understand how the development of the river front is key to a bright new future for the Medway towns and there are so many people to thank most especially, Peel L&P and Savills.”

“We would also like to thank Medway Council who have greatly assisted in delivering this scheme. We are proud to be working with X1, who’s vision, enthusiasm and energy has been so pivotal throughout.”

The Manica Building – X1 Chatham Waters is an opportunity to invest in and be part of a real community. A place where retail, cafés, restaurants and offices are on the doorstep. The X1 landmark building, complementing the beautiful surrounding landscape, is a place to unwind, finding tranquillity and relaxation.

With huge investment being funnelled into Chatham and a 20-year regeneration programme focused on economic growth, community infrastructure, culture and waterfront projects, the town has a bright future. The surroundings at Chatham Waters will be further enhanced during 2021 with the completion of the Long Harbour PRS Scheme, the Dock Garden, Waterfront Boulevard and further Public Realm featuring Public Art Pieces. The works will transform the look and feel of the Dock Basin and outlook across the Medway Estuary.

X1 is proud to mark the opening of the building starting a new chapter for a thriving maritime town now attracting large numbers of commuter residents from the UK’s capital city.
